About Leah Stone
Hi, I'm Leah Olivia Stone, a standup, spoken word poet and creative writer originally from Pendle in Lancashire and now based in wonderful Manchester.
After being a long-time comedy fan-gurl and marvelling at the brutal honesty and home truths in many a stand-up special from all corners of society, I completed the stand-up writing course at Frog and Bucket with the lovely Dave Williams. With that very set I was promptly shortlisted in the regional heats for my 2nd ever public stand-up performance for The BBC New Comedy Award 2021. I then went on to complete a script writing course with BBC and Sky and developed a treatment for a sitcom drama with Cameron Roach (exec producer for Waterloo Road) at Rope Ladder Productions.
However, feeling the pull of the stage and missing the energy of performing, in 2023 I returned to the stage and did an all-female charity gig in Trafford for a women's domestic violence charity to around 100 people. I found a few lady-comic allies along the way that encouraged me to try the mcr open mic scene (stage & radio/creatures newly hatched/comedy balloon).
As an 'Audhd' 'disabled' 'lady' act who was keen for more stage time and struggling with networking among the comedy community, I developed and ran my own inclusive Neurodivergent and newbie-friendly open mic in Chorlton @smileyopenmic which im proud to say is thriving to this day and is well known as a warm and welcoming night to comics of all experiences and backgrounds.
I’m a twice-published poet with submissions in MOAN Zine (alongside a personal 'humorous' essay on sex and neurodivergence) and EY UP AGAIN with Written Off Publishing. I have also performed at Islington Mill, Contact Theatre, Sale Arts Centre and Feel Good Club Mcr as a featured poet.
I use my blunt, boundary-pushing yet sweet and playful nature to discuss sex and dating with a little poetic whimsy and a sprinkling of feminist punk rebellion.
I have gigged regularly with/at; Frog and Bucket, Hot Water, Creatures Comedy, Aviva Studios, Funny Women, Bitches in Stitches at the Fitzgerald Mcr, A Laugh in Stockport, Laugh Track Comedy Salford and Heckles in Eccles.
Here’s a link to my 10 minute set to around 100 people at The Brain Charity for the Neurodivergence Festival in Liverpool-
